Organo has just been awarded a contract for the design and supply of a chemical storage and dosing system for 70% w/w Hydrofluoric Acid and 70% w/w Nitric Acid by a major European producer of finished stainless steel strip and wire.

70% w/w Hydrofluoric Acid is an extremely dangerous acid and must be handled in the most carefully designed and constructed facility, which must include a high-efficiency emergency fume suppression and extraction system, plus all normal health and safety features.

The HF storage tank to be supplied will be constructed in high density polyethylene and complete with its own integral emergency bund. All connections will be through the tank lid to prevent any possibility of leakage through tank connections. All pumps and pipework will be in HDPE. Acid delivery will be via dual containment pipework with integral leak detection systems.

Chemical dosing for both hydrofluoric and nitric acids will be automatically controlled and monitored via a plc-driven system with operator interfaces at the acid delivery point and in the factory.
