Cooling tower make-up water for a coal-fired power station of RWE

RWE Power AG awards the contract for execution of the cooling tower make-up water plant for coal-fired units D + E in its Westfalen power station to Hager + Elsässer GmbH.

These power units, with an overall output of about 1,600 MW, will start operating in mid 2011 and late 2011 and will rank among the most advanced plants of this type worldwide. The net electrical efficiency will reach about 46 percent, and the water intake and discharge volumes into the Lippe River will be exemplary – thanks to optimised processes and consistent multiple use of water streams.

The FLOCOPAC system of Hager + Elsässer GmbH will be used for the cooling tower make-up water treatment plant with a capacity of up to 2,720 m³/h.

This contract is already the second one of this kind within a short time; the cooling tower make-up water treatment plant for the Niederaussem power station – with 15,000 m³/h one of the largest plants of this type in Germany – is already under construction and will start its trial operation in April 2009.

For decades, numerous plants from Hager + Elsässer have been in service in RWE Power AG power stations. They testify to the successful collaboration of the two companies since their formation, which can be continued successfully too through this further contract.
